The Juris Doctor Program has a 4-year curriculum of legal study. Freshmen start in August and after they have completed the first year an exam called First-Year Law Students’ Examination must be taken and passed given by the State Bar of California. Oak Brook has a passing rate of 59.8% for first time takers of FYLS and 56.9% for bar exams.

It is mandatory for First Year Students to attend a one-week long orientation and Introduction to law course. Credit hours for the 1st Year is 20 semester credit hours, for the 2nd Year its 22 hours, the 3rd Year is 23-25, and for the 4th Year it’ll be 19-23 hours.

Paralegal Program
Overview

By law, since you will be studying by correspondence, you must be actively enrolled for four years. The minimum amount of hours must not be less than eight hundred and sixty four. Within three months of beginning the program, you must register with the Committee of Bar Examiners. They do accept transfer credit for the completed first year only.

BACKGROUND OF WEST COAST SCHOOL OF LAW-ONLINE LAW SCHOOL

West Coast School of Law was formed on October 11, 2001 by licensed attorney, David Stallings who received his law degree through correspondence and self study at Taft University. Students did not actually enroll until mid 2002. Initially Dean Stallings called it the California Correspondence Law School but later changed its name because of requests from students who said the word “correspondence” gave a negative connotation when they applied for positions.

The First Year Law Exam, a four hour test over basic contracts, criminal law, and torts, is taken by bar students after the first year. After completion of four years, the Bar Exam can be taken in either June or October.

The paralegal program is 33 units of credit and the instructional methods are the same as the law school programs. Students must have completed four years of undergraduate education, two years of college and two years of work experience, or a high school diploma with training and work experience in clerical skills including typing.

In order to be considered for admission to Northwestern California University Law School online, which functions on a rolling admissions schedule, it is necessary to submit an application along with $25 dollars to the Sacramento, CA admissions office.
